Twyford School Production

Room 4 has started our dance rehearsals for production. We are all very excited and are eager to get the gears rolling. We are very lucky to have creative minds within room 4. This weeks homework children are to create costumes for our performance. They understand what is essential in our costumes- bright, weird and wacky. Discuss with the children what our item is about.
They do have the option of looking through magazines and referring to other Dr Seuss characters, books and movies.
If you would like to be involved and help with our production item. Please let me know.

Science Experiements

2cups and a string:
For a science experiement we constructed a communication object from 2 cups and a string. The children tied string to the end of paper cups. The string had to be at least 20 metres long. The children had to stand apart from one another (a vast distance) and the string was not allowed to touch any objects. One child would whisper into the cup while the other would listen.
The children were suprised to find there objects worked. We discussed ideas, how does this work? Why can sound be heard from a vast distance?
Jakob was able to make the connections that the vibration of sound would travel along the string to the other cup.
We then predicted would the sound be able to travel up. For example, the children wanted to find out 'what if someone was at the top of the playground the other on the ground, can the sound travel up?' (as gravity might stop this- this related to our unit in term 2).

We were suprised to find that the sound sometimes would travel but it was hard to hear, or it would not work at all. We acquired a different result.

Great inquiry learning room 4!

The Faraday Centre

On Wednesday the 26th August Room 4 was able to visit the Faraday Centre in Napier. We were very lucky to be able to walk through the museum and see and use a variety of communication objects from the past and present. Children were able to use the public line of a telephone, construct a message through Morse Code, use the whisper dishes and catapult. Many more devices also able to be used.
It was a great experience for the children, being able use a variety of communication technologies.

Twyford School Cross Country

We had a fantastic day, and the weather turned out to be perfect running conditions- not too hot, not to cold. Well done to all the runners who were able to participate. Everyone worked hard to finish and meet their goal.

Mr Thompson's Lego Fantasy

Thank you to Mr Thompson who brought in his collection of Lego. Outstanding set up, we were all wowed by the amazing detail and ideas that Lego have brought out.
For example a police station, fast food restaurants, boats, planes and trains and many more transport tools.

Room 4 Boot Camp

We have been having a lot of fun at school increasing our fitness for our Cross Country. The children are split into groups of 3, and are rotated around the equipment on a 3 minute time trail. The children work as hard as they can in the time fame, then have a 1 minute rest and are back into it again.

We have received some new equipment, we had a ball trailing it out. Check out our cool snaps!
